The demoralizing effect of not being part of the elite squad at school sport is all too visible if one spends time on the side lines. All but a chosen few experiences a lack of self-worth, rejection and lack a sense of belonging, much as a result of the ultra-competitive nature of the approach, even at primary school level. There appears much to be said for a relationship of trust, built over a period spanning senior primary school to early varsity. RTS seeks to develop a personalized coaching programme for children (initially focused on hockey), aimed at fostering confidence, a sense of belonging, self-worth and respect for self and fellow participants by focusing on core skills with a relationship agenda. Specialised coaching will be supplemented by an interactive performance monitoring app, allowing coaches and participants to track personal skills development. RTS intends to host regular training sessions, informal tournaments and to encourage parent participation, thus building positive relationships with parents and children over time and hopefully, bringing the Hope of Christ to a world in need through sport. The aim is to exclude no-one and to encourage cross subsidization of those who cannot afford to contribute financially, by those who can.
