Dankbare Veiligheidsouers

Ek hoor die desperaatheid in die maatskaplike werker se stem toe sy op ’n stemboodskap vertel van die babatjie wat in Karel Bremer hospitaal lê en die volgende dag ontslaan moet word. “Ek besef julle het reeds drie babas, maar sien julle dalk kans vir ’n vierde?” Ons weet dat daar nie baie Veiligheidsouers is wat hierdie tyd van die jaar, met die vakansie en feesseisoen wat voorlê, nuwe babas inneem nie en verstaan haar krisis. Ek en Werner dink vir ’n oomblik oor hoe dit sal wees om met vier babas in ons kamer te slaap. Gelukkig is die huidige drie, wat almal nou net onder drie maande oud is, al mooi in roetine en slaap nie te sleg nie. Een van die babas gaan ook oor ’n maand na haar aanneemouers, so die oorvleueling met vier babas sal net vir ‘n maand lank wees. Ons sê “Ja,” en gaan haal die volgende dag die pragtigste, en deur die Here se genade, stroopsoet seuntjie en bring hom huis toe.

Een ding waaroor ons nie bekommerd hoef te wees nie, danksy die Kanga&roo projek, is hoe ons nog ’n mondjie gaan voed. Die ondersteuning wat die Kanga&roo projek aan Veiligheidsouers gee om in die basiese behoeftes van babas wat wag op aanneming te voorsien, maak ’n groot verskil. Being a Kanga mom is honestly a dream come true for our family. I have 5 biological siblings and 5 that were adopted as babies (the first when I was 18 years old) and I am also married to a man who was himself adopted (along with his twin brother) at a few months old. Because of this, we have always had a heart for adoption and for babies in need. The funding that we get from the Kanga&roo project honestly makes this dream possible. Without it, the chance of us being able to provide a temporary home for babies in need would be a lot more difficult. Our hearts would miss out on all the love we receive from the babies in our care, and our children would miss out on the incredible opportunity of watching the babies grow and flourish in our care before moving on to their forever families. It is a great lesson for them to learn about loving and serving others and not just looking out for their own needs, and they have risen to the occasion every time with their help and love. Die Kanga&roo-projek het sewe jaar gelede ontstaan om Veiligheidsouers finansieel by te staan met hoofsaaklik die voorsiening van formule melk, weggooidoeke en baba-afvee doekies. Die projek ondersteun maandeliks gemiddeld 18 Veiligheidsouers wat ongeveer 25 babas tussen hulle versorg met R1 100 per baba om die basiese kostes gedeeltelik te dek. Ongeveer 80 babas vind jaarliks baat by die projek. Ons wil graag lidmate uitnooi om betrokke te raak deur ’n bydrae te maak. Dit kan eenmalig of maandeliks wees. ’n Omgeegroep kan selfs besluit om saam een baba se maandelikse kostes van R1 100 te dek. Bydraes kan inbetaal word by Helderberg Uitreik met verwysing: Kanga&roo.
